Trauma - past and present
logo2.jpg

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study outlined 10 categories of childhood trauma: abuse (physical, sexual, emotional), neglect (physical, emotional), household dysfunction, parent mental illness, substance abuse, incarceration; divorce.found that people who had experienced 4 or more of the categories had a 12 times higher prevalence of health risks such as alcoholism, drug use, depression, and suicide attempts. The ACE findings raised awareness about the connection between childhood experiences and outcomes as an adult.

Healing from PTSD and CPTSD is possible! We call is Post Traumatic Growth or Post Traumatic Wisdom. Yes, the journey is a lifetime one, but working with a well trained trauma therapist, you can start to heal. I have helped many people reconnect to their Self (capital S) again and heal their wounds: reconnecting to their own inner strengths, wisdom, intuition, etc. I will help you become Self-led so you can continue your healing journey after therapy ceases.

Effective therapies I use for treating trauma:

-  EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

-  IFS (Internal Family System) and Ego State Therapy (parts therapies)

-  Brainspotting

For brief overviews of the above trauma therapies I use- IFS, EMDR and Brainspotting- please view the following short videos:

NB: For those with a pervasively traumatised system/complex trauma, EMDR isn't going to work in a short timeframe. For example, in EMDR Phase 2 Preparation resourcing will more than likely take time (ie more than one session) unless you've done a lot of resourcing practices in prior therapy. Extra time preparing for memory processing is critical to your safety and cannot be rushed. Keep this in mind when deciding if EMDR is right for you. Discuss with your EMDR therapist.

Psychiatric Disorders: If you have been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder such as Psychosis/Schizoprenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder you would need to contact a clinical psychologist. My clinic does not have the capacity to work with these disorders.

NB: I do not see clients involved in the following: Criminal Justice System or Department of Child Protection.
